Publication Policy

The Journal of Child and Youth Psychology is an international, peer-reviewed scientific journal that adopts a double-blind review process and is published online twice a year (March and October). The journal publishes original scientific studies in the fields of developmental and clinical child and youth psychology concerning individuals aged 0–29 years. The publication languages of the journal are Turkish and English.

In line with its mission to promote the dissemination and accessibility of scientific knowledge, the journal fully supports the open-access principle, making all published articles freely available online for anyone to read and download. Accepted articles are also published as online-first (early view) versions to ensure that researchers and readers can access new findings promptly, thereby contributing to the advancement of science. The Journal of Child and Youth Psychology has adopted the Budapest Open Access Initiative (February 2002) and pledges not to charge any subscription or access fees to readers or libraries. Articles published in the journal may be used freely without permission, provided that proper citation of the author(s) and original source is given.

All submitted manuscripts first undergo a pre-evaluation to check similarity (plagiarism rate), formatting, and completeness of the required files. Manuscripts that pass this stage are assigned to a field editor according to the subject area. The field editor evaluates the manuscript in terms of its relevance to the journal’s aims and scope, publication quality, ethical considerations, and its contribution to the scientific literature and practice.

Manuscripts meeting these criteria are then sent to at least two reviewers from different institutions with expertise in the relevant field. Based on the reviewers’ reports, the field editor makes one of the following decisions: accept, revise, or reject, and communicates this decision to the author(s). If the initial reviewer reports are insufficient for a sound editorial decision, the field editor may send the manuscript to additional reviewers. If one reviewer recommends rejection, a third reviewer is assigned. If all reviewers recommend rejection, the manuscript is declined.

For manuscripts requiring revision, authors are asked to make the necessary changes suggested by the reviewers and editors within the specified time frame. If reviewers wish to re-examine the revised version, the manuscript undergoes a second round of review.

A manuscript that receives acceptance from at least two reviewers is accepted with the final approval of the field editor. Accepted manuscripts are sent to language editors for Turkish and English proofreading. After this stage, the article is prepared for publication by the layout and design team and then sent to the author(s) for final approval. Once approved, it is published as an early-view article on the journal’s website and later included in the scheduled issue. The editorial board determines which issue each article will appear in, based on submission and acceptance dates, while maintaining thematic and structural coherence within each issue.
